This course offers an introduction to international human rights law and the ways in which it is interpreted, enforced, and challenged across the globe. In a time of democratic backsliding, conflict, and rising inequality, international human rights norms provide a framework for justice, dignity, and accountability.
Combining foundational principles with contemporary case studies and thematic analysis, the course explores how human rights law addresses key areas such as liberty and security of person, freedom of expression and assembly, fair trial rights, economic and social rights, and the protection of vulnerable and marginalized groups.
Learners will also gain insight into how individuals and organizations use advocacy, litigation, and UN mechanisms to respond to violations and promote reform.
